Thomas Furniture in Paducah is closing its doors after more than 75 years in business.

According to a press release, the store was founded in 1940 by Wade Thomas as Economy Appliance. Known for selling the first washing machine in Paducah, the company later widened its selection and changed its name to Thomas Furniture.

Founder Wade Thomas passed the business down to his son Tommy Thomas, who has been running the store for the past 50 years.

A going out of business sale is being held starting Thursday at the store, located at 1731 Broadway.
