Paducah Economic Development CEO Scott Darnell has announced that he will be leaving the organization.

In an Aug. 30 letter to PED Chair Mardie Herndon, Darnell cited a desire to be closer to family as the reason for his decision not to seek a renewal of his contract, which was set to expire June 30, 2019. Darnell had planned to stay on until then, but said the Paducah Economic Development Executive Committee chose to terminate his employment on Friday.

Marshall County Judge Executive and PACRO Chair Kevin Neal, and McCracken County Judge Executive Elect Craig Clymer both wrote letters to the PED Executive Board expressing strong support for Darnell staying with the organization until next year, but the board ultimately decided to end his term immediately.

It's unclear if PED has found someone to replace Darnell.
