Donations are being accepted to complete the building of a Dog Park for the City of Paducah. Last year, the Paducah City Commission challenged the community to raise $20,000 for a dog park. The City of Paducah will match that amount so Paducah can enjoy a dog park with wonderful amenities. Right now, the community has donated over $13,000, more than half of the amount needed to get the project started!

Once the funds are in place, the dog park will be built at Stuart Nelson Park. The dog park will include water, fencing, a shelter, a gravel parking lot, and pet waste receptacles. It will have two sections based upon the weight of a dog with 30 pounds as the dividing weight. Paducah hopes to make the park extra special with amenities such as specialized water fountains and dog agility obstacles.

Donations should be sent to:

Paducah Parks Service is accepting orders for printed commemorative dog plaques in the shape of a dog bone. Once the park has been constructed, the plaques will be hung on the fence recognizing your support. Each plaque costs $40 with the profit (approximately $25 per plaque) going toward the dog park fundraising effort. It’s a great way to honor a beloved pet or a pet lover who has passed.

Off-leash dog areas, or dog parks, provide a community setting in which people can gather and socialize and where they can observe the interaction of groups of dogs at play. Dog parks the world over allow owners and their dogs to spend time together while the dog satisfies its cravings for canine play and companionship. Respected organizations like the ASPCA believe that dog parks are beneficial to both dogs and their guardians. Exercise and socialization are critical for a happy, healthy, and well-behaved dog. Almost all behavior problems are improved, at least in part, through exercise and the chance to meet and interact with more dogs and people.

Paducah Parks Service has already begun to draw up plans for the park but we need community support. Please consider a donation today.
