The Paducah Chiefs are back in town, for another fleeting summer of collegiate baseball at Brooks Stadium.

The Chiefs' 20-game home schedule began Friday night with a win over the Fulton Railroaders in front of 639 fans, and a victory over the Muhlenberg County Stallions on Saturday.

The rest of the league includes Kentucky teams from Hopkinsville, Madisonville, Owensboro, Henderson, and Franklin; and DuBois County, Indiana.

The teams play under NCAA rules, but use only wooden bats in their summer stint.

Chiefs players are a combination of local former high schoolers from McCracken, Ballard, Calloway and Massac counties; teammates from Alabama, Missouri and Arkansas; and even as far away as Wisconsin, Texas and California. The out-of-town players are staying with local host families until the season concludes.

The collegiate Chiefs are the latest iteration of baseball teams that have represented Paducah since 1903. Brooks Stadium was built in the 1940s for the professional minor league Chiefs that played in the KITTY (Kentucky-Illinois-Tennessee) League through 1955. Before that, versions of Chiefs and Indians teams played at other fields in Paducah.

The Chiefs' season will continue through June and July before the playoffs and championship series on the first weekend of August.

Tickets at the gate are $10 for reserved chair seats, or $5 general admission.

Each game can also be heard live and streamed on 99.5 The Fan.
