The City of Paducah will soon be installing new public security cameras at several locations.

At their Tuesday meeting, city commissioners approved a municipal order accepting a $46,423.75 bid from Alert Alarm Systems, Inc. for the purchase of three floodwall security camera systems. A $14,678 Port Security Grant wil fund part of the project.

The Paducah Police Department says the new cameras will be set up along the westerly section of the earthen flood wall beginning at 6th & Campbell Streets and ending on the west side of US Highway 45.The cameras will be used to monitor the floodwall, barge and boat traffic along the Ohio River, the Brookport Bridge, and nearby critical infrastructure.

Several thousand feet of the Greenway Trail, including the pedestrian tunnel that runs beneath Highway 45, will also be monitored.

The city has been using surveillance cameras to monitor public spaces for several years already, and police say the the new ones will be incorporated as part of an ongoing project to improve existing infrastructure.

In addition to the cameras themselves, the project will pay for a network video recorder, parts, software, hardware, equipment rental, labor, and annual maintenance. AASI was the only company that submitted a bid for the project.
