A new trial date has been set for former McCracken County Jailer Tonya Ray.

Ray is facing a perjury charge related to her testimony in an October 2017 hearing for former deputy jailer Ben Green. She will now face a judge and jury on January 30-31, 2020.

Ray's trial was originally set for June 20, but her attorney realized he didn't have some testimony from Grand Jury hearings related to Green's case that could affect his defense of Ray. The prosecuting attorney wasn't involved in the case at that time, either, so Judge Tim Stark agreed that they should postpone proceedings.

After Ray's perjury charge, Green was re-indicted for official misconduct. His case ended in March 2018 when he entered an Alford plea to 16 counts of misconduct.

Ray is also facing a charge of violating the Kentucky Whistleblower Act, related to the firing of employee David Knight, who reported a possible misuse of force at the jail in February 2018. Knight was re-instated by the Fiscal Court, and then won the race for jailer in November.
