Paducah native Andy Carloss intended to move back to Paducah when he graduated from the University of Kentucky in 2006, but instead, a job offer in Boston kept him away for six years. Maybe that was a good thing, because his experiences there gave him the idea he was looking for to come back.
Carloss will soon open Midtown Market on Broadway in Paducah. But it won't be a grocery store in the usual sense. Instead, it will be a market similar to those Carloss frequented during his time in Boston.
"While I was up there, I kind of fell in love with the whole market-type store. It was a really great atmosphere. I would find myself preferring to go to these stores as opposed to going into the bigger chains and you know, being in the store for a good hour. I always preferred the smaller store...I felt like I was in and out of there and left happy."
Carloss intends to have the market specialize in certain products, including cheese and produce, and have a drive-thru window as well, which should make it easier to get "in and out."
So what about the drive-thru service that Carloss is planning? How exactly will it work? Carloss is still making those decisions. But he says convenience will be a top priority in the store.
"I have some really great ideas...I want to reach out to my customers, kind of get some good suggestions going on that would really drive that convenience factor that I'm after."
Carloss has not determined an opening date, but says it will be "soon".
