The new downtown Holiday Inn on Paducah's riverfront officially opened for business on Wednesday, and Hotel Director of Sales Tracy Mathis says things are off to a great start.

Mathis says business has been brisk so far, with several guests already taking advantage of the new facility.

"We opened our doors yesterday. It's been very successful. Everyone is enjoying the restaurant and we've even had a few overnight guests on our first night. Things are going very well." Mathis added that 80 rooms have already been booked for Sunday night, and the hotel is completely sold out on Monday and Tuesday.

Mathis said there has been a lot of interest from people planning to attend the quilt show this fall, and she expects the facility to be completely booked for the event. She said there are already enough people on a waiting list to fully book the hotel during quilt week.

"We've been getting a lot of calls leading up to the hotel opening while it was under construction. What we have been doing is taking any inquiries for the September quilt show and putting them on a waiting list. We have been calling back people on the waiting list in the order they were received and offering accommodations. Once we are finished with that list we will be sold out."

You don't have book a room to take advantage of some of the hotel's amenities, Mathis said. The bar and restaurant Burger Theory are both open to the public for breakfast lunch and dinner.

Mathis says several groups have already booked rooms well into next year. She says the hotel's unique location is a major factor in attracting business.

"We have groups that we're booking into 2018, and even beginning talks on some things happening in 2019. We've got a lot of wedding business, a lot of reunions and company banquets. We also partner with Walker Hall next door, as well as the convention center on the other side. We've got a good location with two great venues on either side of us."
