More details have been released on the accidental shooting Saturday that involved McCracken County Deputy Cory Golightly.

Carlisle County Sheriff Steve Perry released a statement Tuesday saying the incident happened after a wedding at Bardwell Baptist Church. Family members were preparing to leave the church for a reception at Columbus-Belmont State Park when Golightly's mother, Debbie, stopped to use the rest room. As she was walking out, her son's gun discharged and she was struck in the abdomen.

Perry didn't give details on how the gun discharged, and calls for clarification have not yet been returned.

Debbie Golightly was taken to Vanderbilt Medical Center, where she underwent abdominal surgery. The bullet reportedly did not hit any major blood vessels, but her colon was damaged.

McCracken County Sheriff Jon Hayden said Monday night that the gun was a .38-caliber revolver, which is not a department-issued weapon. He said Golightly is on administrative leave until the investigation is complete.

The investigation is ongoing and will be reviewed by the Commonwealth Attorney, but Sheriff Perry said foul play is not suspected.
