Myrikal Boyd, a McNabb Elementary 5th grader, has been awarded the Daughters of the American Revolution Youth Citizenship Medal for her demonstration of outstanding patriotism, honor, service, courage and leadership.

Nominated by McNabb Elementary, Boyd received a medal and certificate from Cindy Byrd, member of the Paducah Chapter, National Society DAR, for her contributions to her school and community. She is the daughter of Jovonda and Lewis Boyd.

The DAR Youth Citizenship Medal was established to foster a greater appreciation of the qualities of American citizenship among schoolchildren. Schools and service organizations may nominate one student per grade in grades 5-11.

“Myrikal is a joy to have in the classroom. She consistently sets a positive example for her peers, whether they are in the cafeteria, in the classroom, on the playground, or in music rehearsal,” said teachers at McNabb. “What is most significant is the example she sets when teachers aren't present. Myrikal's respect for the rules and expectations set forth by the school are evident in both her work ethic and her willingness to help her classmates. Teachers and students consider themselves lucky to share their classroom with her. She embodies leadership, honor, and courage at the highest level.
