McCracken County School Board members approved consolidating the district's three middle school baseball and softball teams at Thursday night's regular meeting, following a presentation from Activities Director Kris Garrett.
Garrett said the middle and high school coaches are confident this move will increase overall participation numbers, improve safety by ensuring kids are playing at their age-level, and better prepare young student athletes to play for the high school team in the future.
"As much or hopefully more students will be able to play ball this way," Garrett said in response to some concerns raised by board members. "And the response from parents has been positive so far."
