On Wednesday, officials celebrated the graduation of eighteen more inmates, eleven of which completed the jail‘s first deckhand program, with the remaining seven completing the welding program.
McCracken County Jailer David Knight spoke with West Kentucky Star about the programs.
"We look forward to the success of these folks out in the community and that's really what this is all about," Knight said. "It's not just completing a course, it's about changing their lives, that's what we want. It not only changes their lives, it changes the community."
Representatives from several area businesses and WKCTC, including Marquette Transportation and Western Rivers attended the meeting to meet with inmates after the ceremony to encourage them to apply.
Arnie Puckett, an employee with the jail, says he is amazed with the results of the programs.
He said, "Everybody has really rallied around this thing and it's taken on a life of its own. A lot of needs are being met here."
