Among the topics he discussed was the controversial Trade Promotion Authority. McConnell said the idea of the TPA isn't a brand new thing, but there have been gaps. TPA, he said, has been around since the Roosevelt years. McConnell said it's a six-year bill, and that it's a bill not only for President Obama, but for the next president as well.
In a more lighthearted moment, McConnell talked about what it was like to be in agreement with Obama concerning TPA.
"This was an odd situation in which I found myself in agreement with the President on this issue, and he and I had to roll Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi. Honestly, it was a hell of lot of fun," McConnell said as the crowed erupted into laughter.
McConnell said TPA will greatly benefit Kentucky's agriculture, and that the next thing he wants is the Trans Pacific Partnership. He said it would benefit other nations in Asia who want to partner with America due to a growing threat from China.
McConnell said he is committed to reining in the federal government, and he was happy to see the Supreme Court reject the EPA's regulations on regulating coal fired power plants.
On a local note, McConnell pointed out that even though USEC is closed in West Paducah, most of those jobs were replaced with cleanup jobs that will be in place for many years.
