A Benton man faces multiple charges following a crash Monday night in McCracken County that sent his child to the hospital. According to the McCracken County Sherriff's Office, the accident happened at approximately 5:45pm in the 700 block of Berger Road.

Deputies said 37-year-old Travis Greer of Benton was driving eastbound on Berger Road when he lost control of his vehicle in a curve, left the roadway and struck a culvert. Witnesses told deputies that Greer was traveling at a high rate of speed when the accident happened. Witnesses also said they saw Greer throw a bag in some tall grass after the accident. Deputies later found the bag which contained a bottle of alcohol.

Further investigation showed that Greer was intoxicated while operating the vehicle and had not secured his child in the child seat correctly. Deputies believe his child, three-year-old Channing Dowl Greer of Benton left the child seat during the crash and traveled to the front of the vehicle striking his head on the windshield. He suffered injuries to his head and was transported to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries.

Greer was arrested and charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol with aggravating circumstances, tampering with physical evidence, wanton endangerment, criminal mischief and assault.
