A man faces a burglary charge after an incident at a home on Walter Jetton Boulevard.

The Paducah Police Department says a woman returned to her home at 12:18 pm Thursday with her daughter and saw a man standing in her bedroom. The woman ran outside and told her daughter, who reportedly saw the suspect run from the home and followed him in her vehicle until he went into some woods west of South 12th Street.

Police say the woman gave a description of the suspect, and a police officer and his K9 partner tracked his scent from the home. About 2:30 pm an officer saw 24-year-old Deshawn O. Woods coming out of the wooded area onto Caldwell Street. Police say he was wet and muddy, and matched the description given by the witness. Police also say Woods' shoes matched a shoe's imprint found on the victim's door.

Woods was arrested on a charge of 2nd-degree burglary and was taken to McCracken County Jail. Police say the investigation is continuing and more charges are likely.

Police noted that alert, observant witnesses are the department's best tool in investigating crimes, and this is the second time this month when an arrest was quickly made because an accurate description was given. A burglary arrest was made Dec. 4 after a woman described a man she saw on the screened-in porch of her parents' home on Kentucky Avenue.
