A Missouri man was arrested Thursday in Paducah on kidnapping charges.

According to Kentucky State Police, Deputies from the Polk County, Florida Sheriff’s Office contacted KSP Thursday concerning a missing 16 year-old girl who they believed to be with 46-year-old John E. Rush, of Pacific, MO. Police said the teen had met Rush on the internet.

Police pinged the girl's cell phone, and notified McCracken County Sheriff's Office that the vehicle was believed to be traveling west on Interstate 24 in McCracken County. At around 6:00 pm, McCracken County Sheriff's Deputies and Paducah Police Officers stopped the vehicle.

Police said they later discovered that Rush had been contacting the teen, and that the messages were sexual in nature. Rush reportedly picked the girl up outside of her home around dawn on Thursday without her parent's permission.

Rush was charged with kidnapping and being a fugitive from justice and booked into the McCracken County Jail. The teen was taken to the McCracken County Juvenile Detention Center as a runaway, and was awaiting her parents to arrive from Florida. Further charges are expected from Florida and Missouri.

Police said the investigation is continuing.
