Man Arrested for Alleged Theft of Pickup, Trailer

PADUCAH - A Carlisle County man was arrested Tuesday on theft charges after a truck and trailer were reported stolen.

The Paducah Police Department was called to Minit Mart on Cairo Road near Olivet Church Road just before 10 am. The victim told police he went into the business and left his dually pickup truck running in the parking lot. He said a man wearing a bandana and no shirt got into the truck and drove away toward the west.

The victim got a call from a co-worker saying he had spotted the truck on Ogden Landing Road and the thief was running away from it. Police went to Palestine Cemetery and found the truck. A witness said the suspect ran into a tree line, and a woman called authorities a few minutes later saying a man matching the thief's description came onto her porch along Woodville Road and asked for water.

Police detained a man who was walking along the road, and identified him as 35-year-old Joshua W. Haugher of Arlington. A co-worker of the victim came to the scene and identified him as the man who took the truck from the store, so Hauger was arrested.

Hauger faces two charges of theft by unlawful taking - one of a vehicle valued over $10,000 and another of farm equipment valued over $10,000. He was taken to McCracken County Jail.

The victim told police the truck is worth about $35,000 and the trailer was hauling a stump grinder worth about $45,000, along with tools and other equipment valued around $10,000.

Police remind everyone to lock their vehicles, even if they only plan on being out of them for a few minutes.
