A Paducah man was arrested Tuesday afternoon for shoplifting at a convenience store.

According to the McCracken County Sheriff's Department, an employee at Pocket's Shell on Cairo Road called for help, saying a man took a soft drink and a pocket knife from the store.

Deputies responded at 1:40 pm, but say before they arrived the employee confronted the suspect, later identified as 20-year-old Christopher Fontana of Paducah, as he got into a car in the parking lot and tried to leave.

When the woman tried to write down the license plate number from the car, Fontana reportedly got out, grabbed her wrist and pushed her. A man who was nearby saw the incident and came to the woman's aid, and Fontana fled on foot. The man chased Fontana and was able to corner him until deputies arrived.

Fontana was arrested for theft by unlawful taking (shoplifting) and was taken to McCracken County Jail.
