Lots going on today in downtown Paducah, starting at noon on the Carson Center lawn.....

Candy Cane Hunt
The Park Services Department’s annual Candy Cane Hunt starts with registration at 12:15 pm with the hunt at 1 pm.

Children ages 10 and under will race to find as many candy canes as they can. The children will be divided into two age groups, 5 and under and 6-10, as they race to collect more than 1600 candy canes.  Prizes will be awarded, and goodie bags will be given out while supplies last. The event is free.

After the Candy Cane Hunt, continue to Yeiser Art Center located at 200 Broadway where kids can make snow globes or holiday cards (while supplies last) from 1 until 3 pm.

Ugly Christmas Sweater & Crazy Socks Fun Run
The Parks Services Department invites everyone to kick off the fun of the Christmas Parade by either participating in or watching the Ugly Christmas Sweater and Crazy Socks Fun Run.  This is a fun run; no timer is provided.  Line the sidewalks to watch folks wearing the ugliest Christmas sweater or craziest socks they can find or be one of the runners getting all of the attention.  The Ugly Christmas Sweater and Crazy Socks Fun Run will begin at 14th and Broadway at 4:30 pm today.  Runners will run approximately a mile along the Christmas Parade route until the finish line at Jefferson and 2nd Street.  Registration begins at 3 pm in front of the Police Department at 1400 Broadway.  The entry fee is $10 or the donation of a new, unwrapped toy valued at approximately $10.

The George Wilson S.A.F.E.T.Y. Foundation, a non-profit organization founded by Tennessee Titans Safety George Wilson, is sponsoring the Fun Run.  Wilson, a Paducah native, plans to participate in the Fun Run.  All proceeds from the Fun Run will go to the Foundation.  The Foundation’s mission is to Save Adolescents From the Everyday Trials of Youth by using life skills as tools to educate youth on surviving in different environments.

Christmas Parade
This year's Christmas Parade is this evening in downtown Paducah.  The parade begins at 5 pm at 14th and Broadway and travels down Broadway to 2nd Street. The parade will then turn left on 2nd Street and continue to Monroe Street where it will disband.  Parade participants are encouraged to continue moving on 2nd Street toward the Farmers’ Market pavilion to maintain the flow of the parade.

The theme for the 2016 Christmas Parade is Pictures of Paducah at Christmastime with music and lighting required on each of the parade’s approximately 100 entries.  The judging for the parade entries will be at 4 pm on December 3. Santa Claus will make a special appearance at the end of the parade on the official Santa float and will be available for photos after the parade at the downtown gazebo.  Tennessee Titans Safety George Wilson is the Christmas Parade Grand Marshal.

Parade entries will marshal on Broadway between 14th and Fountain Avenue, on Fountain Avenue between Broadway and Monroe, and on Jefferson between 14th and Fountain Avenue.  Streets will be closed in the staging area beginning at 2:30 pm on December 3.  Streets along the parade route will close at 3:30 pm in preparation for the parade and the Ugly Christmas Sweater and Crazy Socks Fun Run.  The Parks Services Department also asks the public to refrain from parking in the parade preparation area from 2 pm to 6 pm to help limit the congestion of vehicles and floats.
