A local church has recently been listed in the National Register of Historic Places.

Westminster Presbyterian Church in Paducah, a late Gothic Revival building constructed in the early 1950's while the city filled with new employees at the Gaseous Diffusion Plant, was approved for nomination during a May 17 meeting of the Kentucky Historic Preservation Review Board. The board is charged with evaluating National Register nominations from Kentucky prior to their submission to the park service.

The church was established in the late 1890's. The congregation moved to the building on the corner of 28th and Broadway in 1952. The church closed in May of last year due to dwindling numbers and joined with First Presbyterian Church. Baptist Health Paducah has purchased the building and property.

The Kentucky Heritage Council/State Historic Preservation Office (KHC) administers the National Register program in Kentucky and provides administrative support to the review board.

The National Register is the nation's official list of historic and archaeological resources deemed worthy of preservation. Kentucky has the fourth-highest number of listings among states, with more than 3,400. Listing can be applied to buildings, objects, structures, districts and archaeological sites, and proposed sites must be significant in architecture, engineering, American history or culture.
