Voters in McCracken County have choices in many races in Tuesday's primary election.

There are three candidates from both major parties in the race for jailer, and all of them, except one, have worked at the jail. Democrats can choose incumbent Tonya D. Ray, who was appointed to fill an unexpired term, or they may vote for Paula Riley. The third Democratic candidate is Dan L. Sims, who has been coroner for more than 20 years. Candidates in the Republican primary for jailer are Greg Garrison, Bobby Dennis and David Knight.

In County Commission races, 1st District Republican incumbent Bill Bartleman will wait until November to face the winner of the Democratic primary. Candidates in that race are Charles Offut and Mark Scott. The 2nd District has Democratic incumbent Jerry Beyer facing challenger Paul Carter, and Republicans Richard Box and Jeff G. Parker hoping to advance to the general election. The 3rd District features Republican incumbent Scott Wathen against Eddie Jones, with the winner facing Democrat Ryan Johnston in November.

The Democratic primary will decide the race for Property Valuation Administrator, with longtime incumbent Nancy D. Bock facing challenger Debbie Hanna. There are no Republican candidates.

There was only one primary for Constable - in the 3rd District - but Democrat Greg Martin dropped out, leaving on Tony Veltri in the race. County Clerk Julie Griggs says voters will be informed at precincts that Martin is no longer on the ballot. There is no Republican candidate in that race. Other Constable races had only one candidate. Incumbent Mark Hayden will represent the 1st District and Eric Augustus will serve the 2nd District.

With current 6th District State Rep. Will Coursey now running for Marshall County Judge-Executive, both parties have contenders in the primary. Democrats Al Cunningham, Linda Story Edwards and Drew Williams are competing for a spot in the general election. Republican candidates hoping to advance are Chris Freeland and Randall D. Fox. Voters in Lyon and Marshall Counties also participate in this race.

The 3rd District Race for State Representative is wide open, since incumbent Gerald Watkins is not seeking another term and is running for Paducah City Commissioner. Democrat Martha Emmons is unopposed in the primary, and will face the winner of the Republican primary between Randy Bridges and Joni S. Hogancamp.

In the 1st District Race, Incumbent State Rep. Steven Rudy is unopposed in the Republican Primary, and will face Democratic challenger Desiree Owen, who is also unopposed, in November. Voters from Ballard, Carlisle, Fulton and Hickman Counties also participate in this election.

Incumbent U.S. Congressman James Comer is unopposed in his Republican primary, but will face the Democratic primary winner in November's general election. Candidates in that race are MSU Professor Paul Walker and musician Alonzo Pennington. This district covers all or parts of 35 counties in Kentucky.

Polls are open for primary election voting from 6 am to 6 pm on Tuesday, May 22.
