In a Monday press release, Officials with Kentucky Oaks Mall announced the closure of all in-person businesses beginning March 23 at 6 pm. The closure comes after Governor Andy Beshear requested the closure of all in-person retail businesses that are not life-sustaining.
West Kentucky Star spoke with Joe Bell, spokesman for Kentucky Oaks Mall, about the closure.
"This is something we really regret having to do, although it's just a matter of abiding by the Governor's order." Bell continued, "A lot of people have argued as to whether or not this is a good thing or a bad thing, however we really don't have an option."
Bell says he hopes the drastic measures help to flatten the curve, that way they can let all of their merchants get back to business sooner rather than later.
He said, "We're aware this is going to hurt a lot of smaller businesses as they're not really prepared for this sort of thing."
According to Bell, they have given all of their restaurants within the mall the option of offering takeout, although he is unsure if any will do so.
He suggests that anyone interested in giving any of their restaurants business should first give them a call.
"As we make our way through this health crisis that is troubling the whole nation, Kentucky Oaks Mall is committed to supporting the needs of our visitors and merchants."
Although the mall itself will be closed, many businesses on the mall complex will still be open. Restaurants surrounding the mall will be able to serve food on a takeout or delivery basis.
The following businesses will remain open:
• 99 Buffet
• Chuck E. Cheese
• Cracker Barrel
• Five Guys Burgers & Fries
• Logan's Roadhouse
• Los Amigos Grill
• McAlister's Deli
• Qdoba
• Regions Bank
• Red Lobster
• Taco Bell
• US Bank
