According to Jailer David Knight, the first-ever Deckhand Training Course will hold a graduation ceremony at 4 pm. Eleven inmates are scheduled to participate in the ceremony.
In addition, seven inmates will graduate from the latest Welding Course on Wednesday.
In a press release, Knight said the courses will provide inmates with the ability to obtain gainful employment when they are released.
He said, "This not only benefits the inmates but also their families and the community. We invite everyone to come help us congratulate these individuals in this huge accomplishment."
The ceremony will take place in the Jail Annex.
Taxpayers don't pay for the program since needed materials are donated, and any other expenses are funded by the proceeds of the jail's commissary fund, where inmates purchase incidentals while serving their sentences.
