On Tuesday, March 3, detectives with the McCracken County Sheriff's Office were contacted by the Ballard County Sheriff's Office in regards to a possible illegal firearm purchase from a McCracken County business.
In February, deputies with the Ballard County Sheriff's Office performed a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by 31-year-old Lance Dakin of Kevil. While searching his vehicle, deputies reportedly discovered a handgun along with some marijuana. Deputies say Dakin is a convicted felon, and unable to own a firearm.
Deputies also said they located evidence indicating that the handgun had been purchased for Dakin by 28-year-old Courtney R. Ferguson of Bandana.

McCracken County detectives and agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms continued the investigation, which resulted in an arrest warrant being obtained for Ferguson for allegedly fraudulently purchasing a handgun for a convicted felon.
On Friday, investigators from Ballard, McCracken, and the ATF arrested Ferguson at the Ballard County courthouse. Ferguson reportedly confessed to intentionally purchasing a handgun and providing it to Dakin, who she knew was a felon.
Ferguson is charged with one count of fraudulent firearms transaction, a class D felony.
Detectives said more state and federal charges are expected.
