Local farms are sharing the adventure of colorful and cool fall weekends with hay rides and visits to their pumpkin patches.

Schmidt Farms on Cairo Road had its wagon and tractor ready to make dozens of trips to and from its pumpkin patch Saturday. Loaded with kids and adults (and puppies on our ride), the hay wagon was a comfy ride. We enjoyed the brisk trip on the dirt road, through apple orchards to the pumpkin patch. The rides are free and you pay for the pumpkins if you choose to buy one. They offer free samples of their sweet and tasty homemade apple cider. A face-painter is set up in the midst of the mums painting faces. The straw maze for the kids and the spooky straw tunnel keeps the kids screaming and laughing at the same time, plus parents can take photos of their children in multiple cut out silly pumpkin scenes. Mums and pumpkins and lots of fall vegetables and plants are also there.

The market is open all week and the Pumpkin Express will run again on Saturday, Oct. 25, mid-day. For more info, call 270-443-0136
