After years in the making, it looks like this time it may actually work.

The City of Paducah and Owensboro-based LinGate Hospitality have announced the date and time for a groundbreaking ceremony at the construction site of the proposed Holiday Inn Paducah Riverfront, adjacent to the Paducah Convention and Expo Center.

City officials say the ceremony has been scheduled for 11 am on Monday, Oct. 19th, with the slogan "The Missing Piece to Paducah's Downtown Puzzle Has Been Found!"

For years Paducah has been trying to replace the now razed 424-room Executive Inn with a hotel adjacent to the convention center.  Multiple times the city thought they had all the pieces in place, only to see the deals fall through.

When the last deal fizzled with Senate Hospitality, based in Tennessee, due to being unable to secure funding for the hotel, LinGate stepped in with a plan for a hotel that would essentially be a carbon copy of one they built in Owensboro, adjacent to that city's convention center.

The $18 million development will consist of 123 Holiday Inn branded rooms and a restaurant, Another Broken Egg, inside the hotel.  The hotel also will include meeting spaces, a pool, and fitness center.

The city says they needed to offer incentives to make the deal happen, because the height of the new hotel will require the building to be built out of steel and concrete, which is much more expensive to build with than hotels which are 4 stories or less and built out of wood.  The city says in order for the hotel to be priced competitively, they needed to help foot the bill so the developers could remain profitable.

The developers were approved for sales tax credits through the Kentucky Tourism Development Commission to help offset the costs.

With construction slated to start this month, it's not known exactly when the hotel is scheduled to be open.
