The McCracken County Fiscal Court voted Monday night to pursue omitted property taxes.

During their regularly scheduled meeting, the fiscal court discussed a measure to pursue the county's omitted property taxes.

After having previously discovered that many properties throughout the county had not been properly assessed, and in some cases weren't paying taxes, the fiscal court voted unanimously to pursue the unpaid taxes for the benefit of the county, along with a possible 20% penalty attached to the back-taxes.

Judge Executive Craig Clymer spoke on the issue, saying, "We're going to do what the law requires us to do, what fairness requires us to do. If folks know or suspect they may have omitted property, and don't want that 20% penalty, contact Bill Dunn.

The measure was voted on and approved unanimously. Following the decision to collect taxes on the omitted properties, the fiscal court voted on several tax resolutions.

1. A tax rate of .1010 for every $100 of value on real estate, .1421 on every $100 of value on tangible property located within McCracken County, and a rate of 0.025 on every $100 of value on all bank shares within the county. The first set is being collected to benefit general maintenance within McCracken County, care of paupers, the upkeep of public roads and bridges, and other various general expenses as required and allowable by law.

2. A tax rate of 0.024 per $100 of assessed value on real estate and tangible property within the county is being collected for the McCracken County Health Department.

3. A tax rate of 0.012 per $100 of assessed value of real estate and tangible property within the county to go towards the McCracken County Mental Health Center.

4. Lastly, a tax rate of 0.016 per $100 of value on real estate, a tax rate of 0.016 on every $100 of value on tangible property located within the College Support District which consists of all property in McCracken County outside of the city limits of Paducah, as well as a tax rate of 0.025 on every $100 of value on all bank shares located within the college support district.
