At Monday's McCracken County Fiscal Court meeting, Commissioners received an update from the Sports Tourism Commission on their research into sports tourism for the area.

Sports Tourism Commission (STC) Chairman Jim Dudley says they have joined Team Kentucky and Sports ETA. Team Kentucky is a group of Convention and Visitor Bureau's from across the state, with the goal of assessing what counties and cities can do to bring new sports to their area. Sports ETA is a group dedicated to a similar mission.

According to Dudley, they will be attending a Sports ETA meeting in April where they will get the opportunity to meet with promoters to get an idea of what those promoters will want in our area from a sports tourism point of view.

He said, "we're excited about those relationships we're building, it's a good start for us, it's a great way to get our name out there and let people know we're about to be on the map as far as sports tourism and a destination you're going to want to come to."

The STC has been in contract negotiations with a design team and architect, and will soon begin analyzing potential locations  and sports they want to pursue.

When asked about funding, Dudley told the Fiscal Court that he would have more information after the bidding process was complete, because the groups they're working with do not provide estimates, although he says they are going into this from a fiscally responsible point of view.
