The McCracken County Fiscal Court was presented with an update on Barkley Regional Airport at their meeting on Monday evening.

Barkley Regional Airport Manager Richard Roof, explained the airport should continue to see an increase in passengers with the addition of the third daily Chicago flight, which will begin on January 7th. Roof also pointed out that the 2018 fiscal year audit for the airport was completed successfully with no discrepancies found.

He also reported that 1/3 of the taxiway system had overlays completed recently and 83 new LED directional signs have also been installed on the airfield. Roof called attention to an interesting fact that many of the incoming flights have more passengers than the outgoing flights, which points to a need for passengers to travel to Paducah. In his report, he listed the top ten destination cities from Paducah for both domestic and international flights:

Domestic:                                 International:

  1. Chicago                               Tokyo
  2. Denver                                 Cancun
  3. Orlando                                London
  4. Minneapolis                         Mexico City
  5. Las Vegas                            Frankfurt
  6. Seattle                                 Hong Kong
  7. Washington, DC                  Vancouver
  8. Dallas                                  Bejing
  9. Houston                               Puerta Vallarta
10. Newark                                Munich

In other business, the court approved cash transfers to pay county bills as of December 10th in the amount of $140,054.03 and approved the vouchers claim register from November 26th to December 10th to show county bills in the amount of $295,092.98 were paid. They also approved 16 court orders, and approved Bill Bartleman being appointed to the Joint Sewer Agency Board, effective January 1, 2019, serving until December 31, 2023.

In closing, McCracken County Judge Executive Bob Leeper presented Commissioner Jerry Beyer with the Alben Barkley award. Judge Leeper stressed that this is the highest honor that can be given by McCracken County government, and only the 11th Barkley award to ever be given out. He praised Beyer for his many years of outstanding public service. The meeting Monday evening was the last for Commissioner Beyer as he will not be able to attend the December 26th meeting, and his term is over at the end of the year.
