Fiscal Court Approves Body Armor Resolutions

The McCracken County Fiscal Court approved two resolutions to obtain body armor for the McCracken County Sheriff's Department, at their meeting on Monday evening.

The resolutions call for entering into an agreement with the Kentucky Office of Homeland Security, which will administrate the purchase of body armor, active shooter kits, hard armor, and helmets. Judge Executive Bob Leeper described it as an excellent opportunity to help protect the deputies in the Sheriff's Department while using grant money.

In other actions, Judge Executive Bob Leeper announced an upcoming project working with Judge Executive Cooper and the Ballard County Fiscal Court to extend the four-lane US Highway 60 into Ballard County from its present location in McCracken County.

An update from the McCracken County Road Department was presented by Randy Williams, including a report on the Maxon Road project.

The court heard an update from Jim Askins on the Kentucky Wired Project, which will bring high speed broadband to all 120 Kentucky counties.  

Commissioner Bill Bartleman expressed the court's appreciation for the service of McCracken County Sheriff Jon Hayden, who will be retiring on June 30th. 


The court acted on 21 court orders, and approved the following appointments:

Crystal Rothrock to the McCracken County Public Library Board, expiring on June 30, 2022.

Janice Crosno reappointed to the McCracken County Public Library Board, expiring on June 30, 2022.

Darren Ranikin reappointed to the McCracken County Planning Commission, expiring on June 30, 2022.

Bill Bartleman reappointed to the Purchase Area Development District Board of Directors, expiring on June 30, 2021.

Randy Williams reappointed to the Purchase Area Development District Transportation Committee, expiring on June 30, 2021.

William Miller reappointed to the Purchase Area Development District Transportation Committee, expiring on June 30, 2021.

Danny Brown reappointed to the Purchase Area Development District Commodities and Food Bank Task Force Committee, expiring on June 30, 2021.

Cal Ross reappointed to the Purchase Area Development District Housing Corporation Committee, expiring on June 30, 2021.

Bob Fesmire reappointed to the Lone Oak Fire Department Board of Trustees, expiring on June 30, 2021.


 In other business, the court approved the first reading of Ordinance 2018-04, an ordinance adopting and ratifying the previously established fee-pooling system for the McCracken County Sheriff's Office and setting the parameters of that system, as well as those of a purchase order system for Sheriff's Office expenditures.

They also held a very short executive session.
