Email Scammer Uses Fake Invoice to Lure Victim
By West Kentucky Star Staff
PADUCAH, KY - The McCracken County Sheriff's Department is alerting the public about another e-mail scam.

A victim reported the scam to deputies, saying they received an email from what appeared to be "Apple Support" saying, "Thank you for your purchase." An attachment reportedly appeared to be an invoice for $49.99, and had a hyperlink to "CANCEL PAYMENT." When the link was clicked, a webpage opened that asked for an Apple ID, password, Social Security number and other information.

The victim didn't fill out the page and contacted Apple to learn that it was a scam.

The Sheriff's Department reminds everyone who gets a suspicious email to double-check the sender's address or verify the legitimacy of the message before sharing any personal information.
