PADUCAH, KY - Autopsy results are pending from an early morning house fire on Cruse Avenue that claimed two lives.
Paducah Fire Chief Steve Kyle says five people were in the home at 623 Cruse Avenue when the blaze broke out shortly after 5 am Monday. Three managed to escape, but a mother and child, 24-year-old Jessica Woods and 5-year-old Day'von Robinson, perished. Kyle says they were located in a back bedroom, where the fire started.
An investigation determined that it was an extension cord located under the bed that caused the fire. Kyle says the cord had been spliced together, and there was nothing covering the exposed wires.
Fire department personnel and Paducah Police detectives remained on the scene into the afternoon.
