Paducah Parks Services is holding a back-to-school celebration Saturday, Aug. 23 at the Farmers’ Market, in the city parking lot, North 2nd and Monroe in downtown Paducah. The market is open from 7:30 am until 3:30 pm with special events going on from 8 am until 1 pm.

The McCracken County Public Library will be at the event to take applications for library cards and to hand out stickers and prizes. The Master Food Volunteers and Family & Consumer Sciences for McCracken County will provide recipes and nutritional information for breakfast and lunch ideas. There will be samples for all to try.

Special Events Coordinator Molly Tomasallo says, “This is a chance to stock up on fresh fruits and vegetables for lunches and after school snacks. It’s an opportunity to teach kids about local produce and products and let them be amazed at how great fruits and vegetables taste.”

Tomasallo adds, “Our artisans at the market also have many great items to wear and a variety of décor for hanging on the walls of your new apartment or dorm room.”

While you shop, there will be live music and performances from 9 am until 1 pm, including fiddle-player Ian Bastida, performances by The Rhythm Factory, Middle East Dance, and music by Nathan Blake Lynn, founding member of Bawn in the Mash and Wheelhouse Rousters.
