A Kevil man charged with abusing a puppy was in court on Monday.

The McCracken County Circuit Court Clerk said Jayce Bryant appeared for a pre-trial conference. No motions were made, and another pre-trial conference is set for 9 am October 21.

Bryant pleaded not guilty on May 16 to a charge of torture of a dog or cat resulting in serious injury, which is a felony. He was arrested May 2 after a 6-9 month old great dane-mix puppy was found with its mouth taped shut, causing severe injuries to the animal.

Police said Bryant admitted to taping the puppy's snout and legs, then leaving it in the area of Rice Springs and Woodville Road.

Prior to his arrest, Bryant worked as an employee at McCracken County Jail.
