Crash on Clarks River Bridge Kills One Driver

One driver was killed and another was taken to an out-of-state hospital after a crash Monday morning on the the Clarks River Bridge.

The McCracken County Sheriff's Department says they responded to Benton Road just after 7:30 am. Their preliminary investigation shows that a vehicle driven by 23-year-old Tanner Howard of Paducah drifted across the center line and into the path of a vehicle driven by 63-year-old Sandra Cash of Paducah, and a head-on collision occurred.

Howard was pronounced dead at the scene, and Cash was taken to Mercy Health-Lourdes Hospital, then transferred to Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville for further treatment. 

The road remained closed for about three hours while responders were on the scene and a crash reconstruction investigation was conducted.

The sheriff’s office was assisted on scene by Reidland-Farley Fire Department, McCracken County DES, Mercy Ambulance Service, McCracken County Coroner’s Office, and Speedy’s Wrecker Service.

A McCracken County highway blocked due to a fatal crash Monday morning has reopened.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says both lanes of KY 284/Old Benton Rd were blocked at the Clarks River Bridge due to a fatal multi-vehicle crash during the early morning hours. The McCracken County Sheriff's Department reopened the road shortly before 11 a.m.

The road remained closed for several hours while responders worked the crash scene and a crash reconstruction investigation was conducted.

Authorities have not yet released any more details about the accident.
