The Paducah Junior College Foundation held its annual scholarship dinner and silent auction on Thursday night at the Julian Carroll Convention Center.
Proceeds from the event that benefits the general scholarship fund of WKCTC came from items donated by several businesses and individuals for a live auction and silent auction hosted by Chris Colson.
Big ticket items included a barbecue party hosted by the Good Ole Boys that sold for more than $2000, and a pair of UK/Florida basketball tickets that brought over $700.
PJC executive director Lee Emmons said the money "funds a wide variety of scholarships for people throughout the region." Emmons said the scholarships are available to the surrounding counties of western Kentucky and southern Illinois.
Emmons added that it's never too late for anyone to go back to school. "We have some specific scholarships for non-traditional students," Emmons said. He said there are scholarships available specifically for nontraditional students, and the application process will be open in a few weeks.
WKCTC president Dr. Anton Reece said he was encouraged by the large crowd. He said, "Money is what keeps many from pursuing higher education."
