Questions associated with Built Environment relate to housing, utilities, development, planning and zoning, and code enforcement. Each question on the survey is connected to one of eight facets: Safety, Mobility, Natural Environment, Built Environment, Economy, Recreation & Wellness, Education & Enrichment, and Community Engagement.
One of the questions that saw significant change between this year and 2013, the first time the City of Paducah conducted a Citizen Survey, is the question asking citizens to rate the overall quality of new development in Paducah. In 2013, the results showed that 39 percent rated the quality of Paducah’s new development as either excellent or good. That number increased to 46 percent in 2016 and to 53 percent this year. The two most recent numbers were similar to responses from other cities surveyed.
Another question in the Built
Environment facet that has had significant positive change asks about
the quality of the land use, planning, and zoning services. In
the last two years, between 2016 and 2018, the percentage of positive
responses increased 10 percentage points from 35 percent to 45 percent.
A question was asked of citizens about the "overall economic health" of Paducah. In 2016, 38% of surveyed citizens gave a positive response; in 2018, the total was 43%. Both numbers were lower than the average response of other surveyed cities.
The National Citizen Survey, which asks questions about a community’s livability, was mailed in 2013, 2016 and earlier this year to 1500 randomly-selected households within the Paducah city limits.
