Cinemark has laid off employees and temporarily closed due to COVID-19.

On Thursday, a WARN Act Notice began circulating, which caused some to believe that Cinemark will be closing all of their Kentucky theaters permanently. In reality, the notice was saying that due to the closure over COVID-19 concerns, they will be laying off all of their employees until the temporary closure is lifted.

On a Facebook post, Kevin Caudill, General Manager at Cinemark Paducah, spoke about the miscommunication.

He said, "Due to some misinformation it is believed that Cinemark is closing permanently in Kentucky. This is not the case. We will be reopening in the future. A letter sent to the the economic growth department was misinterpreted. It was officially announcing the closing of doors and the layoff of staff due to Covid-19."

According to other media outlets, Chanda E. Brashears with Cinemark Holdings, Inc says they hope to hire all of those employees back and welcome them with open arms.
