A Calvert City woman was taken to the hospital after a fiery crash Tuesday afternoon on Interstate 24.

The Paducah Police Department says officers responded to the 5 mile marker at 2:30 pm to a report of a rollover crash in the eastbound lanes of I-24. As they arrived, officers found a pickup truck engulfed in flames.

Twenty-three-year-old Kimberly Geierman told officers she was heading to Calvert City and had “blacked out,” and that she had no recollection of the crash. A witness, Peter Whisnant of Doniphan, MO, said he was driving behind Geierman’s truck and saw it swerve into the left lane, then back into the right lane and off the shoulder of the highway. The truck ran up an embankment and overturned, coming to rest on its wheels.

The truck caught fire, and Whisnant ran to it and pulled Geierman out of the vehicle to safety. Geierman was taken to Lourdes Hospital for treatment of non life-threatening injuries. I-24 was shut down or restricted to one lane for more than an hour.
