A Calvert City man faces DUI and other charges, after a wreck Saturday night on Highway 68.

Shortly after 10:00 pm Saturday, McCracken County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a two vehicle crash with injuries at the intersection Highway 68 and Watson Road.

Police said 47-year-old Richard Uptain, of Calvert City, was driving east on Highway 68 when he failed to see a vehicle driven by 32-year-old Jeffrey Bennett, of Paducah making a right turn on to Watson Road. Uptain’s vehicle struck Bennett’s vehicle in the rear, causing it to leave the roadway and knock over a utility pole.

Bennett and his passenger, 23-year-old Carrie Hernandez, of Paducah were not injured. Another passenger in Mr Bennett’s vehicle, 10-year-old Jae’Dyn Bennett, was slightly injured but did not seek medical treatment.

Uptain was taken to Lourdes Hospital for treatment of non life-threatening injuries.

Police said Uptain was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. Upon his release from Lourdes Hospital, he was arrested and booked into the McCracken County Jail on DUI; criminal mischeif; wanton endangerment; assault; and other charges.
