The section of 5th Street between Kentucky Avenue and Broadway remains closed to through traffic during the demolition of a building on the corner of 5th and Broadway.

Traffic on Broadway is restricted to one lane between 6th and 4th Streets, with periodic closures of both lanes on Broadway as needed between 5 and 10 pm. The traffic signal at the intersection of 5th and Broadway is not operational. Stop signs have been erected at that intersection.

Between Jefferson Street and Broadway, 5th Street is open for local traffic; however, drivers are not be able to go through the Broadway intersection.

Paducah public information officer Pam Spencer said the project is contracted to be completed within 90 days.

In July, the Paducah Board of Commissioners approved the $1 purchase of 432 Broadway from the limited liability company called 432 Broadway. The board also approved a contract with Environmental Abatement, Inc. in the amount of $458,685 for the building’s demolition. The city is applying for a $500,000 Community Development Block Grant.  If awarded, the funds would be put toward the demolition costs.  A match of $125,000 would be required from the city. Notification regarding the grant funding is expected in March 2016.
