Transportation personnel inspected the project, and a paint truck put striping on the section of pavement over the new Paducah Greenway Trail tunnel before the bridge was allowed to open about two days earlier than expected.
A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet completed repairs to a damaged section of bridge structure on Thursday. Another contractor for the city of Paducah also completed work on a section of US 45 road surface leading to the bridge, as part of construction on the tunnel to carry the Greenway Trail beneath the highway.
The bridge had been closed since July 8th for excavation and construction of the tunnel. During the closure a KYTC contractor had replaced two damaged beams on the bridge superstructure.
KYTC spokesman Keith Todd expressed his appreciation for the patience of those who depend on the bridge.
