A diesel oil spill on the Tennessee River on Tuesday morning required a response from the US Coast Guard.

At 8:27 am, the Coast Guard received a report that the Motor Vessel Patricia I. Hart hit a pier at James Marine while being transported by an assist boat.

The source of the discharge was secured, but only after about 3,000 gallons of diesel spilled into the water.

About 250 gallons of the spilled fuel was reportedly recovered, and 2,700 gallons were removed from the vessel's tanks. The spill was contained with sorbent pads and a containment boom.

The Marine Safety Unit Paducah responded at 9:15 to investigate. There were no reported injuries and no waterway impacts from the accident.

Coast Guard members are scheduled to return to the scene on Wednesday to continue their investigation.
