Area Schools Begin Announcing Closures

Area school districts have begun announcing their closures after Governor Andy Beshear's request that schools close for a two-week period.

During a Thursday press conference regarding COVID-19 in the Commonwealth, Beshear made the request that public and private schools close in an effort to curb the spread of the virus.

Many schools had professional development days scheduled for Friday, March 13, but some are in session. See each school's information to be sure. 

(UPDATE 3-13-20: By Friday afternoon, all 172 Kentucky school districts had announced they would be closed for at least the next two weeks.)


Ballard County Schools have announced their closure beginning Monday, March 16.

Carlisle County Schools have not announced an extended closure, but is not holding classes on Friday or Monday.

Community Christian Academy is closed Friday and the week of March 16 - 20. They will decide about the following week by March 18.

Crittenden County Schools will not have classes on Friday, although they will meet Friday to finalize plans to abide by the Governor's request. They should announce their plans by 3 pm on Friday.

Calloway County Schools have announced their closure beginning Monday, but stressed that students need to be in school on Friday so that students can learn how to complete schoolwork in a non-traditional setting.

Fulton Independent Schools announced their intent to abide by the Governor's request early Thursday afternoon, before it was official. They say student's would be doing NTI work at home. The cafeteria will provide breakfast and lunch for children, it can be picked up at Carr Elementary School cafeteria, or at other locations in town. A letter was sent home with students on Thursday. They will be in session on Friday.

Fulton County Schools have not announced any plans, but have posted a survey on their Facebook page to determine if parents would approve of moving spring break from April 6-10 to March 30 through April 3.

Graves County Schools will be closed March 16 through March 27. They will be in session this Friday, where they will receive NTI instruction.

Livingston County Schools have not announced an extended closure, however, they will not have classes on Friday.

Marshall County Superintendent Trent Lovett announced they will be closed March 16 through March 29. They will also be closed this Friday.

McCracken County Schools students will have class this Friday to learn about NTI. Pending approval at tomorrow's school board meeting, they will begin NTI work starting Monday.

Mayfield Independent Schools will be closing for at least two weeks beginning Monday, March 16. Students are asked to be there this Friday so they can receive NTI instruction.

Murray State University's spring break is scheduled for March 16 through March 20. Beginning on Monday, March 23 instruction will continue using online or alternative methods through Sunday, April 5. The campus will remain open.

Paducah Public Schools announced they will close beginning Monday through Friday, March 27. Their schools were already scheduled to be closed this Friday for a Professional Development Day.

St. Mary School System will be closed beginning March 16 through March 30.

Trigg County Schools had planned for a possible closure and sent NTI work home with students on Thursday. However, they have not yet officially announced a closure. 

West Kentucky Community and Technical College will transition to online or remote learning beginning Monday, March 16.  Students should not report to class.  Students should check their email regularly for more information.

Any schools not listed have not yet shared information about the governor's request.
