The AQS QuiltWeek will not take place on April 22-25. Instead, it has been moved to September 2-5.

Meredith Schroeder, founder of the AQS, released a statement Tuesday afternoon, saying they are sad to announce the postponement of the event due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

It will still be held at the Julian Carroll Convention Center, Schroeder Expo Center, the Pavilion and the Finkel building.

Paducah Mayor Brandi Harless shared her thoughts on the postponement.

"The health and safety of our community is our number one priority. We have worked very hard over the last week to ensure the Paducah AQS event has an opportunity to successfully be rescheduled." Harless continued, "Once we get through this tough time with the COVID-19, we will need the economic injection that AQS QuiltWeek provides to Paducah and the surrounding region."

Founder of the American Quilter's Society, Meredith Schroeder, shared that the health, and safety of their attendees, vendors, participants, and volunteers were of the utmost importance to their team.

She said, "We believe that this is the most prudent course of action at this time."

Paducah City Manager, Jim Arndt, says he is pleased that the American Quilter's Society was able to set dates later in the year for the show, citing the concern of city residents. He says they are taking social distancing guidelines seriously.

Last week the organization canceled the Lancaster Downtown, Pennsylvania, QuiltWeek which was scheduled for this weekend.

Here is Schroeder's complete statement:

"It is with great sadness and heavy hearts The American Quilter’s Society is cancelling the Paducah QuiltWeek Show scheduled for April 22-25, 2020, due to public health and safety concerns directly related to the COVID-19 virus outbreak.

The United States, the Commonwealth of Kentucky, McCracken County, and the City of Paducah have all declared states of emergency based upon the COVID-19 outbreak. The health and safety of our attendees, vendors, participants, and volunteers are of the utmost importance to us and we believe that this is the most prudent course of action at this time.

After working diligently with our governmental leaders, event partners and sponsors, we have reached an agreement to reschedule the 36th Annual Spring Paducah AQS QuiltWeek for September 2-5, 2020. The Paducah AQS QuiltWeek Show will still be held at The Julian Carroll Convention Center, Schroeder Expo Center, the Pavilion and the Finkel building. All reservations have been transferred to the new dates.

We ask for your continued patience and support during these difficult circumstances."
