A man accused of burglary in Mayfield faces more charges after he allegedly assaulted another person while trying to escape from police custody.

Mayfield Police officers were called to a home for a report of a burglary on Saturday morning.

The caller told police a man had forced his way inside her home and had armed himself with a knife. She then armed herself with a handgun and said that the man laid the knife down.

When officers arrived they took 23-year-old Damion Siddell into custody.

Police said Siddell appeared to be under the influence of an illegal substance, and was taken to Jackson Purchase Medical Center for medical clearance.

At the hospital, Siddell reportedly tried to resist the officers to get away. Police were able to restrain Siddell, and he was transported to the Graves County Restricted Custody Center.

At the RC Center, Siddell again lashed out, attempting to flee as officers were moving him from a police cruiser to a county jail transport vehicle.

According to police, Siddell assaulted a Graves County deputy jailer and the transport vehicle was damaged. The jailer was treated on the scene by EMS.

Siddell was eventually lodged in the McCracken County Jail on charges including burglary, resisting arrest, assault by an inmate on a corrections employee and criminal mischief.
