A state legislator from western Kentucky will be representing the Commonwealth in a national capacity.

State Representative Chris Freeland of Benton has been appointed to the Mississippi River Basin Legislative Cohort for the National Conference of State Legislatures by Kentucky House Speaker David Osborne. The National Conference of State Legislatures is designed to research policy in an unbiased, bipartisan way to increase the caliber and credibility of a state's legislative bodies.

Representative Freeland said, “I am incredibly grateful to have been selected for this position, and to have the opportunity to further develop my leadership abilities. Through this program, I also look forward to interacting with leaders from across the United States.”

Speaker Osborne added, “I’m incredibly pleased Chris agreed to represent Kentucky and participate in this cohort. I think we are all watching and following the group’s efforts. Without a doubt, we have far too many untapped opportunities in this area as well as challenges that need to be addressed,”

The Mississippi River Basin Cohort is scheduled to meet in June. The group will hear from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and study resources relating to the region's governance, economics, funding, and other data.
