The Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office is the latest to warn residents about a phone scam in which a caller is impersonating law enforcement officials.
The sheriff’s office says they were alerted that a caller has been using the name of a non-existent deputy who tells people that they have missed a court date.
The caller reportedly records the conversation, and asks the people they call to state their name.
Local authorities emphasize that the sheriff’s office will never call individuals about a missed court date or ask them to state their name over the phone. Additionally, the sheriff’s office believes their real phone number is likely being spoofed.
If you receive such a call, hang up immediately and avoid engaging in any conversation.
