Outdoor burning is now prohibited in Marshall and Livingston counties after orders issued on Tuesday by each county's judge-executive.
Kevin Spraggs issued the Marshall County burn ban effective Tuesday because of the extremely dry conditions with no meaningful rain in the forecast.
Livingston Judge-executive Teris Swanson enacted a similar ban effective until further notice.
The orders give law enforcement the authority to enforce the bans.
As of Tuesday, thirteen Kentucky counties have issued burn bans.
The National Weather Service in Paducah said rain in August averaged a half inch to 1.5 inches in most of western Kentucky, well below the monthly average of 2.75 to 3.5 inches. In southeast Missouri, August was the 4th-driest on record.
All of western Kentucy and southernmost Illinois are currently designated as having abnormally dry soil conditions according to the USDA Drought Monitor.
