Barkley Airport warns of online scams requesting money for air travel

Airport officials said several people in our area have been persuaded to send money to individuals they met online who requested financial assistance to ostensibly purchase airline tickets or cover travel expenses for visits that ultimately never took place.

Officials said the criminals often spend weeks or months building trust with their victim before requesting money, and promising to meet the victim in person.

Barkley Regional Airport encourages residents to learn the warning signs of online scams and to discuss them with family and friends to help prevent others from becoming victims.
